With summer at full speed and the dust having settled on the relatively-new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, many Samsung fans are already looking forward to the next iteration in the Galaxy Note series.
As most phablet fans probably know already, the current-generation Note is the Galaxy Note 5, a handset that Samsung launched back in the summer of 2015. According to some recent rumors, however, the upcoming version will be branded as the Galaxy Note 7 as Samsung attempts to synchronize the model numbers of the Note and the Galaxy S series.
Evan Blass has posted a photo on Twitter of what appears to be a leaked official Galaxy Note 7 logo. Although the logo could have easily been faked by anyone with minimal Photoshop knowledge, Blass is a well-connected tipster that often turned out to be accurate in the past. That's not to say that Blass was right about absolutely everything, but he was right more than most when it came to reporting in upcoming mobile
Last year's Galaxy Note 5 was highly similar to the Galaxy S6: the two phones shared internal specs such as the SoC and the cameras as well as the glass-and-metal sandwich build. Unfortunately, the two phones also shared a couple of notable drawbacks in the absence of a microSD card and a removable battery. Now, since this year's Galaxy S7 is essentially a refined version of the Galaxy S6 that brings back the microSD card slot and also introduces resistance to the elements, there's good reason to believe that the Galaxy Note 7 will follow a similar iterative path.
If rumors and leaks are to be believed, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will come with specs that include a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with dual curved edges, an improved Exynos 8 chipset with a whopping 6GB of RAM, a 12MP primary camera with ultra - fast autofocus, and a large 4000mAh battery to keep everything powered.
The rumored specs fit together perfectly with our expectations with one exception. One rumor claims that the Note 7 will only be offered in a curved-display version. If this turns out to be the case, it will be very interesting to learn how Samsung plans to differentiate the Note 7 and the Galaxy S7 edge, the curved-screen flagship that Samsung launched a few months ago. Sure, we expect the Note 7 to come with S-Pen support, but will that be all?
Some sources also claim that the Galaxy Note 7 will come with an iris scanner to complement the traditional fingerprint scanner in a push for biometric security.
Obviously, you should digest all of this information with a dose of healthy skepticism. Samsung is expected to launch the Note 7 as early as August 2nd in some markets, meaning that an official unveiling should happen in a few weeks from now.
